'Paintings For a Bird that is Near and a Bird That is Far'
(After the recent Belgian government regulations, the gallery will remain closed until further notice.)
Corridor is pleased to present the work of Werner Mannaers for its inaugural exhibition, situated in the former venue of Keteleer gallery in the heart of Antwerp. Mannaers will be showing small-scale works on paper combined with larger paintings, a thoughtful selection that testifies to the relentless energy and dedication of an artistic career spanning several decades.
The oeuvre of Belgian artist Werner Mannaers (b. 1954) has been developing since the 1980s and can be read as an extremely pictorial investigation. In his earlier works he mainly painted playful associations of motifs, signs and language, in which art-historical and philosophical elements played an important, sometimes ironic role. His recent paintings show a much deeper abstraction. (Tom McGlynn)
